The study was conducted in 12 healthy adult mongrel dogs divided into 3 equal groups. Inj. dexamethasone 1mg/kg i.v. b.i.d. was administered until gastric ulcerations and erosions (GUE) index reached 7 on two consecutive observations or 8 in a single occasion. Subsequently the dogs were treated with 1 mL seabuckthorn (SBT) oil in group I, combination of 1 mL SBT oil and 1 mg/kg b.wt famotidine in group II administered orally b.i.d., and group III animals acted as negative control with no treatment. The healing of GUE in different groups was evaluated by clinical, haematological, biochemical, feacal occult blood test and gastro-endoscopic examinations at regular intervals. The GUE lesions healed faster in group II (average 6 days) as against 10.5 days in groups I and III proving better efficacy of the combination in healing of GUE in dogs.
