In the present study, two different anaesthetic induction methods i.e. chamber induction and mask induction techniques, with isoflurane were compared in terms of smooth and effective induction procedure, minimum requirement of physical restraint, simplified management and cost effectiveness. The study was conducted on 14 clinical avian cases undergoing major and/or minor surgical procedures, randomly divided into two groups (n=7 each). Custom made face masks were found very useful in birds with widely diverse anatomical variations. Mask induction proved superior and was comparatively easier and safer as compared to the anaesthetic chambers using isoflurane anaesthesia.
