Abstract

Ultrasound imaging can be used for nerve localization in peripheral nerve block, where it allows the operator to see neural structures, guide the needle under real-time visualization, navigate away from sensitive anatomy and monitor the spread of local anesthetic. Brachial plexus block, as a regional analgesic technique, immobilizes the limb, induces complete analgesia distally from the elbow joint, and permits surgical manipulation of the affected limb. This review focuses on the various techniques and complications in brachial plexus block and application of sonography in bractial plexus block.
