The study was conducted on eight clinical cases of long bone fractures (seven tibial fractures and one femoral fracture) in cattle. The age of cattle ranged from 1yr to 3.5 yr. The types of fractures were oblique (3), impacted (1), comminuted (1), multiple (1), transverse dentate (1) and spiral (1). All the cases were treated with dynamic/static intramedullary interlocking nail (IILN) fixation alone or in combination with cerclage wires with or without external application of fiber glass cast as per the case requirement. The results evaluated on the basis of lameness grading, functional outcome of the limb and radiographic evaluation of healing indicated that IILN technique was effective in seven out of eight animals, whereas one animal showed non-weight bearing lameness at 90th postoperative day. It could be considered as an option for treatment of bovine tibial and femoral fractures.
