Abstract

Twenty four clinically normal mongrel dogs aged 3 to 5 yr and weighing 10 to 15 kg were subjected to pulsed wave Doppler echocardiography for determination of mitral, tricuspid and aortic valve flows. Mitral peak E and A wave velocity and E/ A ratio were 0.73±0.14 m/s, 0.47±0.11 m/s and 1.58±0.37, respectively. Mitral deceleration time, isovolumic relaxation time, E-wave and A-wave duration were 145.63±68.89 ms, 55.94±15.83 ms, 276.87±77.69 ms and 245.0±105.89 ms, respectively. Tricuspid peak E and A velocity and E/A ratio were 0.58±0.11 m/s, 0.31±0.09 m/s and 2.01±0.49, respectively. Aortic peak velocity, velocity time integral and ejection time were 1.03±0.12 m/s, 0.12±0.03 m and 0.25±0.04 s, respectively. The results indicated that the mitral, tricuspid and aortic valve flows were unaffected by gender and body weight of animals.
