Twenty four cattle with upward fixation of patella were randomly divided into two groups, A and B. Medial patellar desmotomy by severing of medial patellar ligament using double stranded braided silk No. 1-0 and B.P. blade No. 11 (closed method) was performed in animals of groups A and B, respectively. On the basis of results obtained it was concluded that severing of medial patellar ligament using braided silk (pinhole method) was more advantageous and safer than severing of medial patellar ligament using B.P. blade. The major advantages of this technique were absence of skin incision, and minimal tissue injury, haemorrhage, swelling, infection and damage to the tissues. The joint capsule was not invaded. New technique of pinhole medial patellar desmotomy was found to be a simple, less invasive, workable, reliable and practical method with minimum postoperative complications.
