The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of therapeutic ultrasound and shortwave diathermy on haemato-biochemical parameters in dogs suffering from hind quarter weakness. The dogs were treated using therapeutic ultrasound (group I, n=6) and shortwave diathermy (group II, n=6) in combination with supportive drug therapy for one week. Blood was collected on days 0, 3 and 7for haemato-biochemical analysis. Significant (P<0.05) increase was observed in haemoglobin (Hb) and packed cell volume (PCV) values from day 0 to day 3 in group II only. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) values did not show any significant change; whereas, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) showed a significant (P<0.05)decrease between day 3 and 7 in group I and from day 0 to 7 in group II. Cortisol, creatine kinase (CK) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) values showed a significant (P<0.05) decrease till day7 in both groups. Significant (P<0.05) increase was observed in glucose values between day 0 and 7 in group I and from day 0 to 3 in group II. Thus, it was concluded that improvement in the haemato-biochemical parameters, especially a significant decrease in cortisol and alkaline phosphatase in both groups indicated improvement in dogs with hind quarter weakness.
