Abstract

The study included 12 dogs with distal third radius-ulna fracture managed by using 3.5 mm locking T-plate. The results showed that the use of locking T-plate provided stable fixation, early weight bearing, good fracture healing, and excellent limb usage with minor complications. Partial weight bearing was seen as early as on 2nd postoperative day and full weight bearing by 3rdday in most of the cases. Two fractures healed by 35–38 days, while the mean healing time was 55 days. Complications encountered were slight plate bending (n=1) and osteomyelitis (n=1), which resolved after treatment. The mean time of implant removal was 59 days. Excellent limb usage score was recorded in 10 cases. Eleven cases showed complete recovery with successful return to function. It was concluded that locking T-plate can be used to provide stable fixation for distal diaphyseal fractures of radius and ulna with excellent outcome.
