Abstract

A total of 32 foals, born in late winter season at Capricorn Stud Farm with average duration of illness of 1–3 weeks were screened via anamnesis, clinical signs, ultrasonography, complete blood count and muscular enzymatic activity before treatment. Thoracic ultrasonography was performed with the help of 7.5 MHz frequency probe in all foals at the age of 1 week and lung lesions were recorded on weekly basis to judge the pulmonary lesions. Minocycline along with Rifampicin were administered to foals with multiple lung abscesses having diameter more than 10 mm till complete cessation of lesions monitored via thoracic ultrasound. Early thoracic ultrasonography and timely treatment may give favourable prognosis to reduce involved expensive treatment cost and mortality rate in foals on stud farm premises.
