The paper describes the complications encountered during the management of 22 cases of cataract extraction in dogs. Phacoemulsification procedure for extraction of cataract was employed in 18 dogs, intra-capsular cataract extraction in three cases and extra-capsular cataract extraction in one case. The intraoperative complications included intraocular haemorrhage, radial tear in anterior capsule, expanding vitreous syndrome or vitreous presentation, dropped nucleus and two intraocular lens haptic breakage. Whereas the postoperative complications included varying degrees of corneal oedema and uveitis, posterior synechiae, corneal scar, retinal detachment, endophthalmitis and corneal melanosis.
