Abstract

Diagnosis and management of right displacement of abomasum (RDA) is challenging under field conditions. The study was conducted from 2019 to 2021 in three districts of Karnataka namely Hassan, Tumkur and Mandya. Four cattle affected with right side displacement of abomasum were treated during the study. Instead of conventional surgical techniques of right flank omentopexy/pyloropexy in standing position and right paramedian abomasopexy in dorsal recumbency, a new method of right flank laparotomy and right paramedian abomasopexy with knots outside the body in standing position was performed. Three out of four cattle affected with RDA were recovered uneventfully. Use of different diagnostic aids like simultaneous auscultation and percussion, succussion, per rectal examination and liptak tests were helpful for diagnosis of the condition. The new technique of right flank laparotomy and right paramedian abomasopexy with knots outside the body in standing position is a combination of different techniques and was found good for the management of RDA in cattle.
