Dilated cardiomyopathy is a primary myocardial disease characterized by cardiac enlargement and impaired systolic function of one or both ventricles, and it is considered as a wellrecognized cause of morbidity and death in humans and giant breeds of dog. The present study included 8 cases of dilated cardiomyopathy diagnosed by characteristic echocardiographic findings. Positive inotropic drug i.e., pimobendan (0.25- 0.5 mg/ kg body wt) was given orally b.i.d along with a diuretic and supportive therapy in all patients. Out of eight dogs, six were in stable condition up to one year with continued therapy.
