Abstract

In the present study, sub-dermal skin flap reconstruction technique was evaluated for management of skin tumours requiring wide surgical resection in 20 dogs. The study revealed that mast cell tumours were the most common skin tumours (8) followed by chronic active inflammation (4), squamous cell carcinoma (3), hepatoid gland adenocarcinoma (3), liposarcoma (1) and carcinoma (1). Maximum number of skin tumours were observed in age group 8-11 yr (12) followed by 5-7 yr (6) and <5 yr (2). Normal healing was observed in 5 cases; whereas complications in wound healing such as suture wound infection with pus discharge (5), seroma development with serosanguinous discharge (6), flap necrosis (5) and suture dehiscence (5) were noted. Recurrence was observed in 3 cases and scar formation in 2 cases. The success rate in first surgical attempt was more in this study as compared to previously operated in terms of recurrence of tumour.
