Abstract

The Grameen Bank in Bangladesh has developed an international reputation for assisting small rural enterprises not normally seen in conventional banking practice. It provides credit to the Bangladeshi rural poor without any collateral. At Grameen Bank credit is a cost-effective weapon to fight poverty and it serves as a catalyst in the overall development of socio-economic conditions of the poorest of the poor who have been so far kept outside the banking orbit on the ground
