In this article, the authors have studied a new non-edible oil source for the production of biodiesel. The seeds of Pinari trees (Sterculia foetida Linn.) are found to contain non-edible oil in the range of 30–35 percent. The oil extracted from the seeds was analyzed for the biodiesel characteristics after transesterification and was found suitable as a biodiesel. The details of the plant, extraction of oil, analysis of raw oil, transesterification, use of biodiesel in the internal combustion engine and its performance are studied in detail and discussed.
