Experiences of Tamil Nadu in Inter Basin Transfer of Water

Tamil Nadu has executed six inter basin transfer schemes, few even before one and half centuries and it operate and maintain them. These links to a very great extent improved the lively hood of the people of the area suffering from drought and experiencing famine frequently and improved the environments and social status of the people. Few inter links transfer the waters of west flowing rivers to east while some intra links utilises the monsoon flood flows to benefit the adjoining dry areas. Tamil Nadu desires to have some more links to meet the growing water demand of the State. This paper deals with the inter linking schemes which are existing and beneficial to the people of Tamil Nadu.
