Abstract

Children with developmental problems, such as autism and mental retardation, are more likely to develop pica between the ages of two and three. Children who have experienced a brain injury that has affected their development may also develop pica. Parental negligence, insufficient love and affection from caretakers, etc., can all contribute to pica. Pica is accepted as a cultural practice and is not viewed as pathological in certain societies. Pica may not pose a threat to life or it may be innocuous.

To assess the knowledge of mother regarding management of pica among preschool children. To assess the effect of structured teaching programme about management of pica among mother of preschool children. To associate knowledge of mothers of pre-school children regarding management of pica with selected socio demographic variables.

The pre-and post-test knowledge scores of mothers on the management of pica will alter significantly.

The pre-test knowledge scores on pica management will significantly correlate with the chosen demographic variables.

One essential step in conducting a research study is choosing a research approach. An evaluative approach was chosen for the current study due to the nature of the problem chosen to assess the impact of a structured teaching programme on mothers of preschool-aged children's knowledge regarding management of pica among them in specific areas of Jodhpur, as well as the need to achieve the study's goal. Purposive sampling is the method used for sampling in the current investigation. To identify the samples in Jo dhpur's Baldev Nagar, I conducted a survey. I discovered that thirty moms of young children in Baldev Nagar, Jodhpur, were included in that. Using sampling criteria, 30 samples were chosen.

The mean percentage of the pretest knowledge score was 49.77%, with an overall mean ± SD of 14.93± 5.159. The posttest knowledge score had an overall mean standard deviation of 21.38±4.814, with a mean percentage of 72.77%.

The average knowledge score was 5.36, and at the 0.05 level of significance, the “t” value that was achieved was higher than the table value. The “t” value is therefore determined to be significant. It indicates that mothers of preschool-aged children have gained more understanding about Pica management. Thus, the research hypothesis predicted that the knowledge scores on the pretest and posttest of pica management would alter significantly. It was clear that certain demographic factors and the level of knowledge that mothers of preschool-aged children had about managing Pica were statistically significantly correlated. At the 0.05 level, the variables Age, Gender, Family Education Type, and Place of Residence were significant; however, the variables Religion and Monthly Family Income were not significant. Thus, it is assumed that there will be a substantial correlation between the knowledge that mothers of preschool-aged children have about managing Pica and certain demographic factors.
