Abstract

This paper discusses potential applications of Data Mining in higher education. Many higher education systems are unable to guide students in selecting career paths, and detecting students, who are likely to drop out because of lack of information and guidance from the existing system. The benefits of data mining are its ability to gain deeper understanding of the patterns previously unseen using currently available reporting capacities. To better manage and serve the student population, the institutions need better assessment, analysis, and prediction tools to analyze and predict students related issues.
