Abstract

Except the King James Version of the Bible, no other book has so penetrated and permeated the hearts and language of the English race. Along with the works of William Shakespeare King James Bible is regularly singled out as one of the most fundamental influences on the development of modern English language. It has been estimated that 93 percent of the words used in the King James Bible are native English rather than linguistic imports. As a matter of fact, none of them stands out as crude neologism or awkward terms sitting ill at ease with neighbors. Quite simply, they have all been absorbed into the complex and shifting linguistic amalgam known as the English language.
