Abstract

We focused on buck/boost rectification by single-phase matrix converter with fewer numbers of switches. Previously, the matrix converter consisted of four bidirectional switches, that is eight set of IGBT/MOSFET with anti-parallel diodes Firdaus and Hamzah (2002). Here, we have proposed a MC, having only six switches. The switch commutation arrangements are also carried out in this work. The switches are fed by the gate pulse generated by PWM technique. Step-up or step-down dc outputs can be obtained by using suitable switching algorithm. The MATLAB simulation results are provided to validate the feasibility of this proposed method.
