Abstract

To overcome the dwindling of fossil fuels, substitute fuels like biodiesel produced in large amount over the past few years. Biodiesel production reduces energy dependency on fossil fuels and to protect environmental losses regarded with handling of fossil fuels. Due to hike in production of biodiesel, excess of glycerol produced as byproduct. Considering the environmental issue it is important to convert glycerol into useful derivative. A series of chemicals and fuels can be manufactured using glycerol. Hydrogen is one of most attractive way to convert glycerol into useful derivative. This paper focuses on different methods of hydrogen production, catalyst and operating parameters using glycerol as feedstock. Steam reforming of glycerol is most prominent way to convert glycerol into hydrogen.
