Abstract

The rising shortage of drinking water is growing the necessity for treatment of wastewater and recycling of water on large scale. Several techniques have been established and used for treatment of wastewater. The paper confers to give an outline about the vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) technique with respect to the benefits, drawbacks and applications, especially in the solar energy areas. According to its benefits, a vital aspect of VMD in improving and taking potable water shorted problem is discussed. The impact of various operational factors on VMD permeate is illustrated and the distinct membrane features are explained. Also, the heat and mass transfer processes occurring in VMD are explained.
