Abstract

Breast self-examination (BSE) is screening methods used to detect early breast cancer. So, the adolescent girls should have knowledge about BSE to detect breast cancer in early stage. A quasi-experimental research, pretest-post-test research design is used in present study. Self-administered knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of adolescent girls regarding breast cancer. Simple random probability sampling method is adopted for selecting the 50 adolescent girls from Dasmesh Public School, Faridkot, Punjab. After conducting pretest, structured teaching programme (STP) is administered, and after 1 week, post-test is conducted to assess the effectiveness of STP on knowledge of adolescents regarding BSE. The mean pretest score was 13.38 and mean post-test knowledge score was 19.76. The association of knowledge score with selected socio-demographic characteristics is calculated with the help of chi-square test, and statistically, non-significant association is found at the level of P>0.005.
