Iris recognition is one of the latest biometric authentication processes among all other technologies in biometrics like fingerprints, voice recognition and handprint. In this technology, authentication is based on the patterns of eyes and iris. In this paper, we discuss iris recognition techniques in brief. Various ways are introduced in due course of time which can enhance the performance of iris capturing image, leading to better recognition. This paper includes dedicated works of various authors who made it possible to use this technology in a more sophisticated way. Iris recognition works by simply capturing the image of iris by the sensor which is kept few metres away from face. The captured image is then matched with the stored algorithms and thus confirms the identification of persons. As the demand of security is increasing day by day, it is widely used for security purposes in banks, offices, protection of some documents, home automations and others. The accuracy of iris recognition is high as compared with other biometric authentication.
