Cinema in Bits: A Normative Study of Digital Cinema

Abstract

In the last few decades digital cinema has changed the course of film making. It created a peculiar anorexia among the film purists and ardent film lovers as Cinema and its indexical values has been questioned by digital cinema. Digital cinema catechize the core fundamental notion of film making. It created a whole new sphere for both film practitioners and film critiques to explore. The word digital has take away the almost century old organic nature of the strips of acetate. It created a demarcation between film theorists and practitioners. Digital cinema is the new language of cinema, it's the new norm as most of the film production houses has shifted towards digital realm. This paper will try to combine the various floating thoughts of film theorists and film practitioners. This paper also will try to answer the quintessential question relating digital cinema that is whether cinematic art has relinquish to digital cinema or not.
