Abstract

The study was planned to induce estrus in true anoestrus buffaloes under field conditions for fixed time insemination. The animals (buffaloes and buffalo heifers, n=6 each) were selected from different villages adopted by CIRB under field progeny testing program. All animals received 500 mg progesterone on day 0 followed by 500 units PMSG and 25 mg prostaglandin, I/M on day 4. All animals were inseminated once on day 7 using frozen thawed semen. Scanty to clear mucus discharge was observed 55–65 hrs after prostaglandin injection in all animals. Behavioral signs (bellowing) were observed only in two buffaloes. Per-rectal examination revealed partial to complete relaxation of cervix in 10 animals. Three buffaloes and 2 heifers conceived following fixed time AI to the above treatment. The findings suggest that above treatment can be used during summer season to induce cyclicity in anoestrus buffaloes.
