Thirty cases of persisting vomiting/retching/nausea, salivation, uneasiness, diarrhoea/constipation in dogs presented at the hospital were finally diagnosed as cases of foreign body syndrome with help of radiography and sonography. The syndrome was more common in young dogs upto the age of 6 months, though foreign material was retrieved from dogs as old as 5 years. Buccal cavity, esophagus, stomach, jejunum were the common sites of foreign body lodgement. Sewing needles, rubber material, plastic masses, coin, metallic material, wood pieces, bone pieces, leather pieces, clothes, phytofecoliths were retrieved from these cases. These cases were treated successfully with medical and surgical interventions. From this study, it seems a forgone conclusion that the cases of persisting retching/vomiting should invariably be subjected to radiography and sonography to ruled out or ruled in foreign body.
