A thoroughbred mare, aged over 16 year, was presented in the college referral clinics, at jaipur with a history of gravid uterine prolapsed of 8 hour duration. The mare exerted and had undergone violent straining during advance stage of pregnancy. Consequently the right uterine horn along with body containing dead fetus prolapsed, got ruptured and the necrosis had started setting in, by the time the mare reported to the clinics. Clinical examination revealed left horn of uterus in its normal position and exhausted condition of the mare with elevated body temperature, pulse and heart rate. The mare was brought in left lateral recumbence. Accordingly the ruptured horn of uterus was surgically amputated under epidural anesthesia. This paper document successful surgical intervention & post operative care of the mare, now enjoying good health.
