The Indian wolves are of two types namely the Indian wolf (Canis lupus lupus) and the Tibetan Wolf (Canis lupus chanco) which belongs to family Canidae and order Carnivora. The subspecies Canis lupus chanco occurs in the Himalayas and is characterized by larger size and wooly coat (Pocock 1941, Roberts 1977). In India it occurs in the upper Himalayan region, in Tibet, Ladakh, parts of Kashmir and Sikkim. The Tibetan Wolf is listed in Schedule I and Appendix I of the Wildlife Protection Act of India (1972) and CITES.
The role of clinical haematology has already been provided in case of domesticated animals but data in most wild animals is limited. The study is conducted in clinically healthy animals which provides base line information, based on these values, results of the diseased animals can be compared and assessed. There is very limited information on the Haemato-biochemical profile of Tibetan wolf (Canis lupus chanco), hence the objective in investigation and recording is to obtain a base line data of normal values.
