Factors Affecting Mortality in Mehsana Buffalo Calves

The study was conducted on Mehsana Buffalo calf mortality at Livestock Research Station, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University. Records of 70 calves died during the period 1998–2008 were used for the said study. The deaths were more in monsoon followed by winter and least in summer. The mortality was higher in the male as compared to the female calves. The mortality percentage reduce with age advancement, the maximum being during first month of the age. The predominant causes of mortality were Calf Scour (diarrhoea), pneumonia and pneumoenteritis.
