Clinical Management of Allergic Lung Disease in Pups

Three cases of allergic lung disease in pups are described and discussed alongwith its successful management. The respiratory distress syndrome was clinically characterised by various degree of continuous or paroxysmal productive or unproductive coughing attacks, exercise intolerance, expiratory dyspnoea, and wheezing sounds. Radiographic changes included increased bronchial marking and increased pulmonary radiolucency. Coprological and haematological findings were non-committal. Therapy with intravenous administration of dexamethasone, a combination of etophyllin and theophylline (Deriphyllin); monteleukast 4 mg orally in the evening; a puff of beclomethasone and salbutamol twice daily; humidification and oral administration of a cough syrup containing terbutaline twice daily brought about much sought relief.
