Efficacy of fluoroquinolone in combination with alpha tocopherol to resolve non-specific infections of reproductive tract of dairy animals

Clinical screening of 87 animals detected in first post partum oestrus was carried out with white side test which revealed 36 (62.07%) cows and 24 (82.76%) buffaloes positive to endometritis. All positive cases were treated with 60 ml intrauterine medication (Lenovo-IU^a) consisting of 20 mg levofloxacin and 5 mg of alpha tocopherol per ml during oestrus and animals were not bred during treated oestrus. Repeat screening of animals in subsequent oestrus showed 28 (77.78%) cows and 17 (70.83%) buffaloes negative for the test and hence the animals responded to the combination treatment were inseminated to the clean oestrus. 24 (66.67%) cows and 14 (58.33%) buffaloes were found conceived to the first insemination. Single repeat treatment also proved to be successful for conceptions in 07 (87.50%) cows and 04 (75.00%) buffaloes. The antibiotic therapy of levofloxacin with vitamin E combination through intrauterine route was found to be useful in resolving infectious repeat breeding problem in cows and buffaloes.
