Ten New Zealand white rabbit bunnies of 4 to 12 weeks age were presented with alopecic lesions with red pustules and/or yellowish crustation on nostrils, ear pinna, ear base, around eyes and paws and intense itching. Skin scrapings confirmed Sarcoptes scabiei infestation in all cases. Itching in the hand of owners, handling these bunnies, reflected zoonotic significance. Therapy with weekly subcutaneous injection of Ivermectin (Neomeca) @ 300 μg/kg, one wash with amitraz, biweekly cleaning of cages and premises with deltamethrin (Butoxb 3 ml/lit) yielded desirable results with alleviation of the symptoms of itching and smoothened skin lesions.
