A three months old pup was presented with history of accidental consumption of anticoagulant rat killer bait containing 0.005% bromadiolone. Clinical examination revealed abdominal distention, mild colic, marked depression and no signs of internal hemorrhage. Emesis was induced with hydrogen peroxide and activated charcoal was orally administered to adsorb the remaining toxin. As a specific antidote, synthetic Vitamin K1 (menapthone sodium bisulphite) was given intramuscularly along with supportive intravenous fluids and B-complex vitamin injections. The puppy made an uneventful recovery.
