Abstract

Rumenotomy was performed on a jersey cow suffering from Traumatic Reticulo Peritonitis to remove foreign bodies. During rumenotomy, adhesion between viscera and abdominal wall were noticed. There were broken down and peritoneal lavage with antibiotics was performed before closing the laparotomy wound. Even with routine follow up for five days, the animal developed complication i.e. large quantities of foul smelling pus oozing from the operation site due to acute diffused peritonitis which was confirmed by clinical, hematological and biochemical examination. The animal was successfully treated with intraperitoneal administration of 10% Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) in Normal Saline and antibiotics.
