Abstract

Twisting of uterus on its long axis is mainly due to anatomy, physiology of animal and managemental strategies. A pluriparious full term buffalo presented with the history of restlessness and colic signs since seven hours. The animal had normal temperature, sluggish ruminal activity, tachycardia and tachypnoea was observed. Per-vaginal examination it revealed the characteristic signs of uterine torsion which is of more than 1800. The animal was rolled with quick jerky motion on the right side by strong co-ordinated pulling on the ropes tied to the fore and hind limbs separately. After two complete rolling the foetal fluids gushed out of the uterus, by that time cervix was dilated and foetal parts were easily palpable. On application of gentle traction to the foetus, live female calf was delivered. The buffalo was treated with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and antihistamines for 3 days in a row. To restore the normal body condition, animal was administered with Calcium. The animal expelled placenta eventually.
