Urinary Bladder Rupture in Bovine and its management -A Retrospective study of 156 cases

Rupture of the urinary bladder is a common problem in male bovine if there is urethral obstruction and the later has not been corrected within few days. Sometimes, there is spontaneous rupture also. In the present study, 156 clinical cases of bladder rupture in bovine (140 bullocks and 16 male calves) have been presented since June 1972 to May 2011 among which Cystorrhaphy were done on 152 cases and Cystoplasty using formalin preserved urinary bladder grafts and intact caecum on laparotomy on left and right Para lumbar fossa, right para median and para anal regions on individual patient; while cystoplasty was done after right para median incision. The diagnosis was made on the basis of clinical symptoms, rectal exploration of the urinary bladder and paracentasis abdominis. The surgery was performed mostly between 5^th to 8^th days after cessation of urination. The mortality rate was 14 per cent in cystorrhaphy, while there was no mortality on cystoplasty.
