Abstract

A Labrador was presented with a history of anorexia, depression, abdominal discomfort, intermittent vomiting, tenesmus and passing bloody mucoid stool. Physical examination revealed that the animal was dehydrated, depressed, anemic with moderate rise in temperature. Tenderness was appreciable on abdominal palpation while a firm, painful mass was felt in the mid-caudal abdomen suggestive of intestinal intussusception. Digital radiographic examination revealed accumulation of gas proximal to the intussusception. Exploratory celiotomy revealed presence of ileocolic intussusception. The intussuscepted segments were edematous and congested with adhesions between the serosal surface of intussusceptum and intussuscipiens. Resection and end-to-end anastomosis was performed.
