A German Shepherd dog with long standing perineal swelling, dyschezia and tenesmus diagnosed clinically as bilateral rectal diverticulum without perineal hernia was operated by ‘pull-through technique’ in anal approach. The pathological portion of rectum with disrupted muscularis and protruded mucosa was pulled to limit and resected out.The healthy rectal wall was apposed with anal skin.Castration was done immediately after ano-rectal approximation.Standard post-operative measures with laxative diet, regular dressing and systemic antibiotic were followed. The dog recovered successfully.
