A study was conducted to assess the utility of Real-time ultrasonography for fetal heart rate in crossbred mares under tropical conditions by using 5.0 and 7.5 MHz transducer. Embryonic heart rate was studied during fifteen examinations in six crossbred mares at each point of time from 22nd to 60th Day, after artificial insemination. Real-time B-mode ultrasonography by using a stop watch method. Heart beats were first noticed on Day 22nd which was highest among all findings. Further heart beats showed fluctuating patterns all-over the whole study period. It was found that presence of fetal heart beat is a reliable indication of fetal viability during gestation.
