A Thoroughbred mare, aged over nine years with a history of chronic open pyometra for the past four month following natural mating was successfully treated with repeated large volume lavage of several liters of warm and cold saline in alternate dosing for seven days together with infusion of broad spectrum antibiotic i/u and oxytocin i/v.
