Abstract

The study is a retrospective analysis of practical management of hoof disorder in 42 cattle of dairy herds. It was reestablished that concrete floor in intensive system of farming was main predisposing cause. The problem slowly weaned off by keeping the animals on grass (kuccha floor) and maintaining floor hygiene. Management of overgrown hooves by regular hoof paring, management of certain conditions of hoof with economical dressings like potassium permanganate, copper sulphate, magnesium sulphate, maggoticidals and strict bandaging of hoof after medicament applications were effective for care of hooves. Further, the animals which regularly showed hoof problems in the subsequent generation should be discouraged for breeding and culled.
