Abstract

The etiology of bovine laminitis is multifactorial involving anatomical, physiological and nutritional considerations. Although several well known treatments using anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics and vaccinations are in vogue. It is highly exciting and challenging to think differently and look for innovative approaches. In this direction targeting a biomolecule S100A8/S100A9 whose expression is implicated at dermo-epidermal junction in inducing inflammation. The endotoxins are released as sequel to destruction of gram negative bacteria due to ruminal acidosis arising from heavy carbohydrate feeding. These toxins gaining access to circulation and causing laminitis will be targeted by a novel approach. The use of specific nano particles (NPs) which adsorb the endotoxins will be subjected to rotation with external magnetic strength altering their structure to remove their toxic effects will be attempted. Further, traumatic causes of laminitis whose incidences are higher in India will be targeted by an innovative approach of designing cowslips using a blend of chitinous waste and organic polymer.
