Achilles Tendon Rupture and its Clinical Management in an Ewe

A six month old ewe was brought for left hind limb injury. Clinical examination revealed open wound at stifle joint and achilles tendon rupture. Ruptured tendon ends were isolated from surrounding tissues and sutured using nylon in simple interrupted pattern, keeping the hock at 130° angle. Post-operative care was undertaken with parental antibiotics and NSAID's. Open wound was dressing with ringers lactate with povidone iodine. Soft cotton bandaging was done for 6 weeks period. From 4^th week onwards partial weight bearing was noticed on the affected limb. Skin wound healed completely and from 6^th week onwards complete weight bearing was noticed on the affected limb.
