Abstract

Clinical study was carried out in twelve cases constituting ten bullocks and two horses showing signs of inflammatory swelling or lameness to evaluate the efficacy of external application of tolfenamic acid gel along with parenteral NSAIDs. The animals were monitored for 15 days to evaluate clinical improvement. Haematological parameters were evaluated on 0 and 7 day. The inflammatory swelling on neck region was resolved in two horses by 15th day. Total reduction of swelling of acute yoke gall was seen in three bullocks by 30th day. Weight bearing improved while walking in four bullocks suffering from shoulder sprain and traumatic arthritis by 7th day. Tolfenamic acid gel was found effective as on external application in large animals to reduce inflammatory swellings and acute lameness.
