Abstract

The benefits of physiotherapy and rehabilitation for small animals have been increasingly recognized over recent years and although some modalities have adopted, there is great variation in the quality and quantity of the physiotherapy on offer. The provision of physiotherapy can also promote a very positive, caring image to clients as well as improving outcomes for animals following injury or surgery. Advances in the management of humans receiving physical therapy have allowed us to adapt some of the techniques and procedures to canine patients. Although there are many potential situations in which physiotherapeutic modalities may be used in dogs, this discussion will primarily concentrate on neurologic patients.
