Nineteen cases of bent or bowed leg syndrome in growing dogs were investigated for etio-diagnosis and treatment. The syndrome was more common in large breeds, growing pups and males and characterized by bowing of radius and ulna, lameness, reluctance in getting up and walking, pain, posterior ataxia and enlarged metaphyses. Radiographs revealed bowing of long bones, physeal thickening, cupping of metaphyses and wide medullary cavity. Hypovitaminosis-D, Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism, Secondary hypercalcitonism of dietary origin or Hyperphosphaetemia were found to be etiologically related to bent leg syndrome and thus the cases were treated according to their etiology.
