Urinary hydroxyproline an index for bone metabolism was determined in cattle from fluoride endemic area. Cattle (n=12) were divided in two equal groups of six animals each. Group I and II served as healthy and disease control, respectively. Urine samples were collected from both groups for estimation of hydroxyproline. Significantly (P<0.05) higher concentration of hydroxyproline was found in cattle from fluoride endemic area as compared to healthy animals. The study suggested hydroxyproline levels in urine can be assessed as a non-invasive biomarker for diagnosing osteofluorosis in animals residing in fluorotic area.
