Splint Application for Immobilization and Treatment of Compound Supra-Condylar Humerus Fracture in a Tiger cub

Abstract

A nine months old tiger cub hit by an automobile was reported with limping and lamness along with slight swelling and crepitation at the humeral region of the left fore limb. Radiography revealed multiple compound fracture at distal one third and supra-condylar fracture of the humerus close to the elbow joint. Thomas splint followed by bamboo splints were applied for immobilisation. Three weeks later, showed primary callus formation. 45th and 75th day radiograph showed secondary callus formation and satisfactory healing of fracture.
