External Fixation Technique for the Management of Accessory Carpal Fracture in a Camel

A female camel aged three years was presented with a history of swelling in both the carpus. Clinical examination of carpal joints revealed soft tissue swelling around the carpus. Dorso-palmer and latero-medial radiographs revealed the bilateral fracture of accessory carpal bone. Animal was sedated with xylazine. After applying traction and counter traction, both the fore limbs were padded with cotton and a thick cotton bandage was applied over it. Plaster of paris cast was applied from elbow to the toe region in both the forelimbs. Animal was discharged with an advice of 12 weeks stall rest.
